I would like to hear about everyone's hometowns - what they're like, what kind of things there are to do.  My little town (there are only 10,000 people in the entire county) is really boring.  We have no theater at all, just a few restaurants, and a Walmart.  Oh, and Dollar General.  Three fourths of the town looks like its falling down and we have a lot of meth manufacturing arrests.  The closest thing we have to a gay bar is a restaurant 40 miles away that has drag shows on Friday and Saturday nights.

Hometown as in where we live now, or home town as in where we were born? Or hometown as what we decide is our hometown?

"Hometown" is generally "the town where you grew up."  But I think we'd accept a more inclusive definition.

I... don't know what my hometown is...

Let's see... I live in Zurich, Switzerland now.  It's a pretty city, it just has a lot of people who tend to be closed (as opposed to open-minded and friendly) and, yeah... the German's driving me crazy too, though I spoke German twice in a row before I left (*shock*)!

Rome is my second home.  It's the most beautiful city in the world with old architecture that Anosanim would salivate over.  Have you ever seen it?  The slanting rays of the sun playing on the Colosseum and on the Vatican?  It's absolutely beautiful!  And Remin would never stop eating!! 

And my Chicago is home .  I love it.  Gorgeous people, awesome people, awesome lake, awesome river... just... a little cold right now, lol.

I was borne and raised  here in Michigan right where I live now. I live in a nice little country town on a lake and I love it.

IM out in the country but yet the big city Grand Rapids is only about a 15 min. drive away where we have everything you can think of in restaurants and  entertainment.

We have the Great Lakes, Gerald R Ford Museum, and the best part of Michigan..Mackinaw Bridge in the U.P it's beautiful up there and we go at least once year.  From my house it's about a 4 hour drive.  IF you have never been there I would suggest going to anyone if you ever get the chance and check out the bridge at night to.

I complain alot about Michigan winters but to be honest it's beautiful here all year round.

Too smart to attract jocks, so I read, and read... and surfed.

Okay here goes... I live in Kirksville MO USA home of the tigers and the Truman State Bulldogs.  I am about 3-4 hours away from St. Louis.  I was raised on the East Coast and in the Midwest because Mom was in the Navy so I know a lot about states and cities in those areas.  I also lived over in England for a little while so thats cool as well.  Matthew if you know where Clinton Arkansas is thats where I graduated High School from.  Really small town and it got hit by an EF4 tornado  Febuary 5, 2008 .  Thankfully none of my family where injured.   I have to say that my time in SC and Maryland are my favorite right now.

I'm a military brat, too, Quintanna!  My dad was in the Army.  He went to Germany before I was born.  I grew up here in Indiana and also in New Jersey, Hawaii, Massachusetts, and Kentucky.  Dad was also stationed in Korea twice.  Many people here in this town have barely traveled past the stateline and almost no one has ever even been on a plane.  So I know how lucky I am to have done all that traveling.

I'm  from Canada I was born in Toronto and lived in the city until my parents thought it better for my little brother and I to grow up in Mississauga (A suburb that boarders the T.O.), and now that I'm at university I live in city of Hamilton.  So during they year I call The Hammer, Sauga, or T.O. home. I love all three cities each one has there charms. In Toronto, you can travel the word just be driving down one street, there is always something going on. Mississauga holds my heart because my family is there my friends are there my best memories are there. Plus, it the city with the largest shopping mall in Ontario so Mississauga owns my wallet too. The part of Hamilton I live in is very picturesque; there are a lot or trails and parks near by. Our university is enclosed between Cootes Paradise and Lake Ontario so everything just looks really pretty in the spring and summer when everything is in bloom. What I like best is that no matter which city I am in there are always tons of friendly people to meet whether I am shopping on Bloor, riding the Go, or walking though the framers market down in Jackson Square.

Well, as for me, I was born in a suburb of a suburb of Anaheim, California. We moved to Phoenix, Arizona on my 7th birthday, and right before I turned 14, we moved to St. Paul, Minnesota! (*sings* One of these things doesn't go with the others...) I'm now living in a close suburb of St. Paul and I spend quite a bit of time in Minneapolis, where all the fun is at. It's a blast, except for, you know, the COLD and SNOW. In fact all the snow just melted off, and we're supposed to get another 6in to a foot in the next two days *headdesk* Anyone wanna trade?

I grew up in a city called Cavite, south of Manila in the Philippines.  It's an urban city now but 20 years ago, the town where I live is very small.  There were no malls, no movie theatres and just a few restaurants.  There isn't even any asphalt or cement on the roads.  There was a lot of constructions going on back then and I remember playing around this 50-feet high sand they use to build houses from.  My playmates and I would run up and slide down that sand and I'd go home with sand everywhere.   We would also play in the rice fields and fishing lake.  I remember the picnics under mango trees, eating watermelons we just picked by the side of the road.  I was always outside playing, sometimes a few kilometers away from my home, running around with other kids.  Back then, our parents weren't as paranoid about where their kids are as they are today.  Is this true about parents in the US and elsewhere?

My hometown is very different now.  No more rice fields and lakes and mango trees.  Most of the land got turned into a housing subdivision.  Our house in Cavite has been sold already since none of my family is in the Philippines.  My dad's in Milan, my sister and my mom are both in Ontario, my brother's in Houston, and I'm in Saudi Arabia.  This makes it hard for me to answer whenever some asked me where's home.  I refuse to say Saudi Arabia is my home because it's not.  Even after being here for 10 years, their culture, behavior and beliefs are just a few I will not make my own.  My family's scattered all over the world but I have my husband with me so that's my home, where my heart is.

I know how that feels Ana.  One Army base where we lived has been made into a state prison, another one is almost closed, and the apartments where we lived at a third have been bulldozed under.

It's really sad to go back and find those places gone.

I know what you mean I think the longest I have ever lived in the same house was two years.  Then when I get a chance to go see where I once lived its all changed so much.  Either its been torn down, converted into other buildings or lots or nature has had its way and its completely different.  Not to mention the different owners and their decorating and landscaping.  Thats why I love taking pictures and postcard shopping.  They are the best reminders for what was and it helps me keep my memories true to what happened or what one place looked like when I was there.  Plus you know the view you had at 6 and the view you have at 30 is so different.
