What Anosukinom said made sense.  And they were to rule together.  He would have to rely, from time to time, on Anosukinom’s judgment.  His response to that realization wasn’t to become smarter and tougher so that he would never need Anosukinom’s advice.  It was to be glad that he had someone as smart and responsible as Anosukinom.  Someone he could trust, even with the Empire.

            All right.  I’m going back to what I was doing.  You enjoy the music.

            Xio Voe wondered what Anosukinom had been doing.

            Just meeting with Remin and the high priests.  Something about the budget, or allocating resources?  I don’t know, I was daydreaming about massaging your back and kissing your chest.

And call me crazy, but the scenes with Zhemt, Rini, and Arnet didn't really do much for me. I'm trying to pinpoint why. It may have something to do with the fact that I much prefer the belas' and Siblings' eloquent sex talk. Zhemt's dirty talking was pretty rough and coarse. Also, I felt like Zhemp and Arnet saw Rini as a purely sexual object, not also as a prince and a wonderful, generous man.I'm sure Rini didn't mind, but I adore him and want his partners to think of him as more than just a spectacular lay.

I think that was it: it was such a marked difference between how T'rin saw Rini and how Zhemt did. T'rin made love to Rini's whole self through his body, focusing on giving Rini an experience, taking his pleasure from Rini's pleasure. T'rin saw all of Rini almost from the beginning, pursued him in a way, even after he'd been inspired by Rini's pure goodness and generosity. Zhemt just fucked him. Even the dude's sister said that he would focus on taking and not giving.

It just rubbed me the wrong way, like it wasn't even lustsex because in Zhemt's eyes it wasn't about a mutual sexual experience, it was about using Rini as a sex toy.

Now about the lustsex with Rini, Zehmt and Arnet.  There is a greater something happening here since Kudorin stepped in and interceeded on Zehmt's behalf.  I am certain that Kudorin knows what was happening and would have prevented it if there was a potential problem.  We kno how protective Kudorin can be with his Gift.

This was Zehmts first sexual act as a free man.  He had the partner he wanted and he was doing the things he wanted to do.  He asked Arnet to be there to take care of Rini's sexual needs so he could just revel in the fact he could do this; screw someones brains out without any thought to their needs or pleasure and just meet his own.  The fact that it was Rini just showed the goods are looking on hm in favour.

I know you are all going to hate me, but I'm really weary of the Rainbow book.  It's been well over 100 chapters, and two years (in real time) and they are STILL NOT MARRIED.   I absolutely love Matthew's writing, and this universe he has created, and the characters in it, but, come on - please tell me I'm not the only one getting bored?  I want the next book already!

I'm not getting bored, but I am getting impatient. I know Matthew is constructing the series with deliberation and he doesn't throw things in without purpose, but I feel, however irrationally, that some things that have been lingered over could have been summarized so that we can get to the wedding faster. But then I try to find specific examples of that and the only things I can come up with are small, like the Siblings having casual non-bela sex and the thing with Zhemt; everything else serves a purpose and therefore should be explored fully. I do wonder if the timing of those things could be modified, though, so that they happen after Xio Voe and Kudorin get married.

I do despair every week that the wedding doesn't happen, but you know what? THE STADIUM IS ALMOST FINISHED!!!!!!!!!!!!

Still, if, in the next four chapters, the wedding does not happen, I will be surprised to the point where I may suspend my subscription for a few months so that I can read it all in one fell swoop. I was able to do that with Orinakin and Bade and not being able to do it with Kudorin and Xio Voe is torture.

And like I said before, I'm very happy that he's summarized the past few months in a couple of chapters.  Look at it in real time: two people don't meet and get married in a matter of weeks.  Okay, it happens, but that's generally not recommended .

This is incredibly true. The first (second?) time I reread after catching up, I remember thinking that everything flowed very well when I was able to got directly from one chapter to the next during the Rainbow Book even though I was constantly frustrated with the glacially slow progress of Xio Voe's emotional development when I was reading it one chapter a week. Every reread since has been like that. I'm on ITL 71 of my current reread so I hope that by the time I catch up, I can read all the way to the wedding.

As much as I'm impatient and frustrated now, I know that Matthew has planned and is writing this series very well and I wouldn't want him to rush it just because we're going slowly insane.
