I was just wondering if any member of this board has met any other member of the board face to face? Sue and I have met up twice. The first time we went to a LOTR Exhibition at the Indiana State Museum. They had a lot of the actual costumes and props from the movies. I had to stop Sue from molesting Boromir's "body" in the elf boat. And she scared the living crap out of the lady who was demonstrating the blue screen booth. You could hold this long foam "sword" and see yourself fighting onscreen. Sue says to the lady "Can I be Mrs. Boromir?" and she was swinging that thing really wildly. I thought the poor woman was gonna have an accident in her pants. To be fair - the guy watching over John and Alan's original set drawings wasn't at all sure that I was joking when I said something about slipping the drawings out of their frames and putting them into my bag. Sue and I (along with her youngest daughter) have also camped out in my living room. I have very little furniture in my apartment, and we were all sleeping on air mattresses. We did a little ghost hunting that weekend, too. I took them to a local cemetary where a lot of my relatives are buried. Both Sue and her daughter refused to go into one corner of the cemetary. I found out later that an alleged witch is said to be buried in that corner. Anyone else got any stories?

We stood there and just stared at it for like 45 mins and had a hard time walking away from it. Then before we left we had to go back and say goodbye to him....lol Then I got my hands on Sting Frodos sword in the gift shop and started hitting and stabbing Liz with it because the guy said it makes a humming nosie when you smack it and well she was the closes person to me...lol Liz has a picture of the two of us with our shirts tell her to share it Sean Bean = Boromir

Yup. Rhia and I met in a pre-1800 English Literature class. I got her addicted to ITL. ::evil laughter::
(I encourage everyone to go to her new thread "Priests and Sex" under "Belas, Spouses, Boyfriends, Etc.")

I think that if we did, chaos would follow very quickly. Had I been able to go to one of the BSB concers in Indiana last year, I would have dragged her along with me to VIP, but sadly that couldn't happen because the Indy date was the day I went from Toronto to Chicago (after three amazing shows!!) and I couldn't. Maybe that's a good thing because Liz and I... meeting BSB... we'd probably ask Brian to make out with Nick and get thrown out *ahem* Vani

No, I wasn't joking. These fairly large pencil sketches about 24 inches by 36 inches, absolutely exquisite. More than anything else in the place, I wanted to get my hands on those. (And that includes Aragorn's clothing and Eomer's helmet) As for Vani and I, Matthew - you know its all your fault we're friends in the first place, right? And we would totally get ourselves in trouble if we met BSB together. "C'mon Brian - just one little french kiss?"

pre-1800 English Literature class Ah! What'd you study? These fairly large pencil sketches about 24 inches by 36 inches, absolutely exquisite. I will not covet. No, I will be strong. (And someday ITL will be huge and folks will make that kind of artwork of Seijaces.) As for Vani and I, Matthew - you know its all your fault we're friends in the first place, right? What have I unleashed upon the world?! -Matthew

pre-1800 English Literature class Ah! What'd you study? Mostly narrative poetry by Shakespeare and his contemporaries. "Hero and Leander," "Venus and Adonis," the first chorus to "Romeo and Juliet," "The Faerie Queen," "Dr. Faustus," and several other poems that I'm probably forgetting. For the record, our instructor was INSANE, but also lovely. Enough so that Jae and I are both taking him again this semester. The GSI is also lovely. I have a crush on his grading style. Because I am enough of a geek that I enjoy color-coded notes on my essays.

I would like to add that Marlowe is a dirty, dirty man, because "Hero and Leander" was...um...filthy. And wonderful. And filthy. Yes, our teacher is made of awesome. Rhia has a theory that he pissed someone off in the administration because no other English teacher gets stuck teaching in rooms that weird and out-of-the-way. (The class we met in was in an engineering building, and this semester's class is in an electrical engineering building--it's like, wtf?) - Jae

The class we met in was in an engineering building, and this semester's class is in an electrical engineering building Surely your campus has an English building. I mean, considering the university y'all attend, I'd expect there to be several of them. Our English building was crowded, and it was off in a corner across a parking lot down a hill, but at least it contained most, if not all, of my English classes. Liz and I first became friends in the old Backstreet Boys chatroom I met Liz in a Chris Kirkpatrick yahoogroup Witness the awesome power of boy bands to bring people together. -Matthew

Oh no, we totally have an English building! It's pretty. It's one of my favorite buildings on campus (besides the pretty, pretty main library). ( http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/0/09/Wheeler_Hall--UC_Berkeley--Panoramic.jpg/1024px-Wheeler_Hall--UC_Berkeley--Panoramic.jpg) And it's near the heart of campus, too, and really easy to get to no matter what direction on campus you're coming from. I've had a ton of English classes there, but for some reason, our professor just doesn't have classes in Wheeler. Rhia thinks he made an important administration person mad because he gets stuck teaching in weird buildings at the far edges of campus, and I'm inclined to agree. - Jae

I concur. Yeah, Wheeler is amazingly pretty. If it's any consolation, most of the English classes that don't happen in Wheeler happen in Barrows, which is hideous: http://i.treehugger.com/files/barrows.jpgIt's even worse now that most of it is painted brown, with blue and red accents lingering at the top. It's still pretty close to the center of campus, though, which is part of the reason I'm convinced that our professor has angered the Powers That Be -- not only does he get shucked into Engineering buildings, but they're always, always in a part of campus that's impossible to get to.

Good God, Barrows is amazingly ugly now. From light gray to that ugly shade of brown? (I miss how it looked in the picture.) What were they THINKING? But yeah, getting to Cory Hall was MURDER. I had to walk 30 minutes up a 40 degree incline on 20 minutes of sleep and I about died. Missed the bus by literally 3 minutes, and I watched it drive up without me. I really wish he hadn't angered the "Powers that Be" because I hate getting to Cory from my apartment. It's a good thing I love that crazy old man. - Jae

Eh. It was ugly then, too. It's just uglier now. Thinking? Since when does UCB's admin think? But yeah, getting to Cory Hall was MURDER.
I have a Milton class in Barrows right before. Trying to get there in ten minutes was actually, physically impossible. Luckily, the Milton got moved to Birge, which is marginally closer. ...I'll stop kvetching now.
