So, I got a new card and went to update my account information, so I can still get my MHT fix. Paypal proceeds to CANCEL my subscription. No big deal, I re-sign up. Now I have a new, horrible user name to remember.

Oh, same here!  I've renewed my credit card, forgot to update it in PayPal and got a failed payment for ITL.  I almost got my subscription canceled.  Good thing I updated to my new card before I canceled my old card, otherwise I'll be looking at another password, too.  Everything is well again.  Aren't the passwords hilarious?!
