Team Talin/Xio Voe - Never Say Never!

We haven't really talked about Fet Kailoe, so:

Quote
“A commitment?”  The notion was ludicrous.  “What would you have me commit to?  You cannot bear me children.  You cannot be my Empress.  Why should I shackle myself to your side when there can be nothing between us?”

Orinakin laughed as if every chuckle pained him.  “Nothing between us?  Ilanosa above, Kailoe, we have the world between us.  I’m so in love with you that for every day I spend with you, three weeks follow in wild torment as I recount our conversations and revisit our lovesex and pen romantic letters I can never send.  And then I see you again, and I’m more in love than I ever was before.  We have love between us, Kailoe, we have passion, we have hope, we have the strength of will to-”

“I cannot commit to you,” Kailoe said sharply.  “I will not.  What would become of my political career if I strapped myself to the Anorian royal diplomat?  My word would forever be suspect.  My loyalties would forever be in question.”

“We’re smart enough to figure that out,” Orinakin argued, taking his hand.  “We’re strong enough to make anything work.  There’s only-”

“Tell me.”  Gripping Orinakin’s chin, Kailoe stared into those brilliant purple eyes.  He didn’t care about the rest of it, he would deal with it, but he had to have this.  He had to have this.  “Tell me that you will allow no one into your bed, but me.  Tell me that you will suffer no man’s touch, but mine.  Tell me that I will be the only one to know the pleasures of your body.[ITL 122.1]”

Shocked This man has large nads. I love how bold he is and I'm tripped out by how he clearly thinks that the world should bend to what he wants, simply because he wants it. He seems like a man that doesn't sugar coat anything.

He's so much like Xio Voe, yet completely different. I can see why Xio Voe looks up to him.

Xio Voe is like one aspect of Fet Kailoe's personality to the extreme. The main difference is that Fet Kailoe can feel, tremendously and Orinakin knows it. It is why, I believe, Orinakin is so drawn to him. It's why their relationship is so intense.

Can you tell I love reading about them?

I love Kailoe and I find him so sad. To have thought that Orinakin would forgive him, that they could get past that. How could he think that? And then to live out the rest of his days sad and alone. It's horrible. I also wonder if Orinakin in that generation ever got married and moved on. I just want to know so much!

Also, and now I am getting slightly off topic please forgive me, why didn't that generation's Anosukinom ever talk to Orinakin about the affair? It seems like something that should be addressed, but maybe it was because he/she knew what was going to happen? I just really wonder about that...

Enough of my musings... YAY Fet Kailoe! I do, for some unknown reason, really really like him!

I think that the purpose of having Xio Voe identify so closely with Fet Kailoe is to prevent him from making the same mistake.  I bet anything that Fet Kailoe wished that he had married his Orinakin.

I was thinking along that same line.  I think that the love Fet Kailoe felt for Orinakin took him completely by surprise.  He's a man that was used to being in control of everything and this was something beyond his control.  I think it hurt his pride when Orinakin wouldn't give in to him.  I would really like to get to know these characters a lot more.  Like maybe a whole book dedicated to them.  I also agree with Diamond.  Fet Kailoe has some nerve.  HE won't commit to Orinakin and has the nerve to ask Orinakin not to give anyone his candy.  Can you believe that guy?

From another thread:

Quote
Fet Kailoe/Orinakin too.  What I am not sure of is if that part was in Xio Voe's dream, so he knows of it yet.

There's no time-jumping for the sake of time-jumping in ITL.  We haven't had separate flashbacks.

When we move in time, we're doing it with Kudorin, or with Orinakin.  Those separate Fet Kailoe scenes are Xio Voe's dreams.  They're not sometimes dreams and sometimes stand-alone flashbacks.

It seems to me that the last Fet Kailoe dream that Xio Voe had indicated that Fet Kailoe pushed Orinakin away to keep him from being hurt.  That kind of pain had to stay with him for the rest of his life and I'm betting he was absolutely miserable for the rest of his life.  That dream also showed us that it appears to be tradition for the royal family to be so cold to each other.  Its no wonder Xio Voe is the way he is.
