Had to happen... we have music, I added movies so... I'll add the books...

Non-MHT books, that is, because we all know that we all love Matthew's writing.  So...

Other authors?

My favorite... (no, not JK Rowling... she's my second favorite): William Shakespeare!!!  Favorite play: Romeo & Juliet!!

I love JK Rowling, Anne Rice, Anne McCaffrey, Jude Devereaux, Patricia Cornwell, and the series that Nora Roberts writes as JD Robb.  I don't know why, but that series is 20 better than her other books.

Don't forget Stephenie Meyers!  lol.  Though, I must say.. while the Twilight series is good, I like other books before it.

Ooohh, silly me, I forgot Jane Austin... and Stephen King.

Any idea what I should read on the plane tomorrow?  lmao

That would be my case too, actually.  I do like the relationship Edward has with Bella, but... I'd rather read about Harry's relationship with Ginny or Aragorn's relationship with Arwen (Legolas is with Haldir, I told you this already, he can't *be* with Aragorn!!!  I don't care if Haldir dies in the movie, he's alive in the books!!!!).

A book series I love is the Anne of Green Gables series.  I know, I'm pathetic, but what can I say...

I love JK Rowling, Anne Rice, [...]
Anne Rice introduced me to Slash, so for that I'm 'grateful'. My favorite book will always be The Vampire Lestat (with The Vampire Armand as close second). The other ones are so-so for me.

Ooohh, I love Gilbert in the books!  But, man, the part that still makes me cry after all these years is when Matthew dies.

Ok, I have laundry to do!  NOW!

be right back!  lmao

ok, here I am again.  My last load of laundry is starting.  Yay!  I leave tomorrow!!

I can't decide which book to bring to read on the plane...  The Vampire Armand, or Jurassic Park (I love Jurassic Park), unless I just bring The Purple Book lol.  Which actually, I was going to bring anyway.  I can leave it there for my best friend and I'll get myself another copy when I come back.  Yay for ideas!!!

My favorite Anne Rice book is The Queen of the Damned.  Amazing book (10 times better than the movie).  I recently read it again.  Now, I don't rightly know...

Ohhh!  Another book I like that I *finally* finished after four years is The Chronicles of Narnia.  The end of the whole series shocked the heck out of me.

Hmmm, I could read Stephen King's 'IT' again, but that's a heavy book and I'm going to buy more books in Chicago... nah, I'll read something else... dunno what, though.  Ideas anyone?

Oooh you have to read the books!  I love the series they did for it but it really doesn't do them justice.  Anne of Green Gables is sweet.  I love just rereading the last couple of pages of the first book...it's so sweet and makes my heart so happy Smiley

I also LOVE Shakespeare, Jane Austen, Charlotte Bronte's 'Jane Eyre', Harry Potter series, Phillip Pullman, The Eldest Series, Twilight series.....oh goodness I love to read!  And thank goodness - my mom always says "as long as you like to read you will never be bored" and it really is true. That's very true indeed.  You can't be bored if you have a good book... and Matthew, of course.

Phillip Pullman!!  I have to finish reading His Dark Materials.  Actually, I could read that tomorrow... hmm....

YES!  Read that!  I cried at the end I was so upset that it had ended.  I've met Phillip Pulman twice at book signings.  I can't remember the first time too well because I was young, probably like 12?  But the second time was right when The Amber Spyglass had just come out and I went with my mom and her friend and her son and I was the youngest person in the room at 15 (I think).  When it was my turn to get him to sign my book I just turned red and slid it over to him quietly asking him to sign.  I couldn't say anything! Grrr....Oh he is so amazing! Embarrassed

The movie gives me nightmares. It's *so* bad. I liked the book as well. That Egyptian vampire, Kayman? is HOT. The only thing I didn't like in the book is when Armand takes up with that journalist...  Grumpy

Okay, I'll check out the books. Did you watch the extra movie they made (that wasn't one of the books), when Anne goes to the war and Gilbert serves there as well as a doctor...?

I took a seminar on LotR as well. It wasn't what I was expecting at all.  Sad Head Shake The professor was at least 80 years old; she absolutely refused to discuss the books, and spend the entire class discussing Tolkien's religious beliefs and how he translated them into the struggle between good and evil in the books.  Thumbs Down

I've heard good things about this book and totally want to read it.  (But I can't yet--it would be rewarding myself for things I'm not finished doing, so...  it's gotta wait until the summer.)  The dynamic between the two main characters sounds so, so, so interesting.  I'm really looking forward to it.

Oooh, it is really good. Really really good. I wish I hadn't read it so I could read it for the first time again! The author is writing a sequel and I'm praying that she doesn't screw it up.  Pray  She's written a Fantasy story which I can't wait to read. (I hope she can get it published before the year's end). She also has a werewolf short-story up on her website. Very different from Wicked Gentlemen, but by far the best werewolf story I've read.  Nod Anyways, as you can probably guess, since I read Wicked Gentlemen, I've been tracking down her other works. So far I haven't been disappointed.

Yes, I've seen that movie!  Because I tend to be such a purist when it comes to books there's a part of me that hates that movie.  But the romantic in me is bigger than that and I just love it because it's so romantic with them trying to find each other and fighting to survive and reuniting that I love it! lol

Oooh that sounds like a bad class.  Yeah, in my class we read LOTR, The Hobbit, and a couple of his essays.  Every week we had to write a paper on our reading.  There was one girl that would always try to bring religon into it and say how he strongly influenced and this means this but we would jump al over on how Tolkien was not big on metaphors and that it isn't one big story on Christianity or WW2....she was very sweet and good natured about it so it was ok lol  Smiley   That really sucks that you had such a crappy Tolkien seminar, though!  Sad Head Shake   I'm so sorry!

Yes...JD Robb's ...but she is not done right?  and a DragonRider fan!... Clap
Have you read the FOREIGNER series by CJ Cherryh? or Chanur series?

Heinlein was one of my favorites...

I am really into M/M now (well DUH!)  Releived and can give you some good series if you want.

Let's hope the JD Robb series isn't done.  I freaking devour those books.   And I'm always happy to meet another Dragonrider fan.  I even have the Dragon Lover's Guide to Pern.  Have you seen that?  No, I haven't read the Foreigner or Chanur series.  What are those about?  What series do you recommend?

Yes, I have the Guide to Pern too. My undergraduate work was in geography... so I am a nut when it comes
to even all my sci fi books needing good maps.

HMMM. She wrote the two series about 25 years apart. The Chanur was earlier. In both series the whole premise
is that humans are the outsiders to the main culture... or 5or6 cultures in the Chanur (big female cats)  series...
and she does it  beautifully.  So if you want to read both I would read the Chanur first. It can be complicated. I am just rereading them for the first time in probably 10 years...and I actually understand all the politics now! Proud of myself.
I do not think FOREIGNER is done.  It is based on the 'other ' culture being like classical old Japan with an Emperor and all.

Then because I know you do... you are here after all...If you like really really long series, there is David Weber's
HONOR HARRINGTON series...not finished at all yet. 16 huge books. It is a Space Navy series with a female
protagonist ...with a gillion lives...and an empathc/telepathic cat type pet.

But FRIDAY is coming soon!

When did you find ITL? I think I found it about week 18.  Had to reread those over twice, then I had it.

I've been in on ITL since the beginning.  I've been reading Matt's brilliant work since before he started writing original character fiction.  I actually don't read very much else anymore, because he's got me so spoiled.

Mmmm, I've bought one too many books already since I've been here.  My latest acquisition was a vampire book.  No, not a novel, something explaining modern-day vampires.  It'll be useful for my story, assuming I decide to have vamps in it.  I nearly got 'Atonement' and a book called 'The Battered Bastards of Bastogne' (about the 101st Airborne during the Battle of the Bulge between December 1944 and January 1945).  I think I'll be getting that book before I leave, even though I'm not supposed to buy anymore books.

The latest book I read was a young adult novel that my best friend gave me called 'Blood and Chocolate'.  It was about werewolves.  Good book.  Now I'm reading this vampire series that she gave me as well.

Okay, Adam's oming to pick me up in an hour, so I'd better finish getting ready (no, Liz, don't bother asking how it's going... things are weird right there).

On the top of the list: "Raised By Wolves" series by W.A. Hoffman.  I lost count on how many times I've read these books.  I love them so much that I bought more copies and gave them as gifts last Christmas.  Red Love

Yes, Falconer, I've read "Wicked Gentlemen" and it is amazing!  I just want the story to go on and on.

Some of my favorite authors:  J.R. Ward with her Black Dagger Brotherhood,  Charlaine Harris, Kresley Cole, Kim Harrison, Patricia Briggs, Suzanne Brockman, Robin Hobb (I absolutely love the Fool), Anne Bishop, and Stephanie Meyer although I enjoyed "The Host" more than the Twilight series.

"Wicked Gentlemen" has a sequel?!!!  Dancey  I have to check that out!

I've just finished "Bone Crossed" by Patricia Briggs today.  I want Samuel's story already, but it probably won't be in the Mercy Thompson series.

"Raised By Wolves" will blow your mind!  Buzzy  It's 4 volumes in total, the 4th coming out this May.  Each volume is long, about 550 pages, hard-bound size.  When I first got it, I wasn't impressed with the cover but when I started reading, I just couldn't stop.  Talk about two f*cked-up, tortured souls!  Not to mention the well-researched, very interesting back drop, 17th Century Caribbean.  If you want to know why the pirate Johnny Depp has eyeliner or why pirates wear earrings, or what's the difference between Pirates and Buccaneers Fliebustier (freebooters), it's all in here.  The depth of the characters are very well explored.  I once read someone described it as "Pirates of the Caribbean"---only gay.

I've got a book that gives a lot of historical information on pirates.  From what I've read, it was actually unusual for pirates to be straight.  They had whole colonies of nothing but m/m couples.  Now that's what I call paradise!

It does. It's not out yet though. Ginn Hale is currently writing it. You should check out her LJ. She doesn't post often, but there are snippets from another novel there and she gave some details about the sequel too. She's really cool.

I've got a book that gives a lot of historical information on pirates.  From what I've read, it was actually unusual for pirates to be straight.  They had whole colonies of nothing but m/m couples.  Now that's what I call paradise!

"Raised By Wolves" explores that exact practice.  They call it Matelotage.  Buccaneers/Pirates call their partners matelot (pronounced mate-low.)  I think that's where the pirate word "matey" comes from.  Apparently, pirates of the 17th century always fights in pairs.  Each pairs shares everything.  They share space in the ship, they share loots and if one dies, the other inherits the loot of the other one.  And since there are no women in the ship, it's quite natural for everyone to have sex with their matelots. It's just like marriage.  Just more strict since there's no adultery allowed---believe me, you don't want a dangerous pirate jealous, it will get bloody.  Boxing

The books are very well written.  The author said that she never intended for the book to be a story about 2 guys, but when she did the research, this is what she found out so this is what she wrote.  I was a bit leery reading about pirates, but this book changed my mind.  Happy Hands

Raised By Wolves is self-published so it's hard to find them in libraries.  Amazon.com has them and they are also available in e-book--mobipocket, I think.  I have a few more copies so if you can't find them, I'll give you one of my extras.  Same goes to you Liz if you want them.  Smiley

Mmm, I recently bought Anne Frank's Diary while I was in Chicago.  It seemed weird to me not to have this vital piece of Holocaust literature, even though I've read it before.

People say I have too many History books.  I think they're illiterate crazies.  Cause one can never have too many History books... or too many books, period.

History wasn’t a series of individual events, but a rich story where each plot affected the others.

No, you can never have too many books.   I never have understood how people can go through life only reading what they have to.  I absolutely have to have a book around at all times.  (Its quite convenient that the Purple Book 1 fits inside my purse.)

I've been reading books since the 6th grade and of course I started with young adult stuff like Sweet Dreams.  Anyone else know what books those are?

It feels like I'm always reading books.  That's one of the reason why I don't have time to read emails--I'm too busy reading something else.  I'm not into nonfictions, though.  My main purpose in reading is to just get away from it all, to stop reality for a while and let a book take me somewhere else.  I have enough reality in my life.  The only biography I've read is John Barrowman's book "Anything Goes" but I don't know if that counts since the book is still so entertaining.  I don't read anything too depressing unless it's a happy ending, then you can give me the most heart-wrenching, tearjerker book out there and I'll read it.

Since I read really fast, bringing books with me on vacation is difficult considering the baggage allowance is usually just 20kg and I just have enough space for my shoes.  With, let say, 4 books, by the 4th day I got nothing else to read.  So I'm so ecstatic to discover the world of ebooks!  I have about 300 books on my HTC and I bring it everywhere, even in the bathroom  Laughing

I do!!  Cheesy I used to read them back in the day! They were French translations because I couldn't read English then, and they were hard to find. There was also a French collection of similar novels "Coeur Grenadine", which I used to love...  Adore

Right now my eyes would probably bleed if I were to read them again, but I was a big fan!  Grin  Good ol' days.

I remember their first book, "P.S. I Love You".  It's about this girl called Mariah who fell in love with a rich boy named Paul.  And when I thought everything will be alright, Paul got diagnosed with cancer, went away to get treated, kept in touch with letters (thus the title) and in the end Paul died.  This is the first book I've ever read and eventhough it's not a happy ending (loved it anyway) this one will always be memorable to me.   Hmmm maybe I should get a printed copy again (I just borrowed this book when I first read it.)  But, yeah, Falconer, they'd probably make my eyes bleed too!

So, I went and googled the book "P.S. I Love You" and it's actually available in Amazon.  It got a 5 star review.  Out of 30 reviews, 2 customers gave it four stars but their actual reviews are amazing.  Only one gave it a 3 star review and I think he/she is on crack  Sad Head Shake  The 3 star review says "This book was very threatening to society..."   Huh?

But, dude!  The book costs 12 freakin' dollars!
