I was e-mailing Liz from work today and I was talking about how we should start a discussion about how the imperialfamily is going to react to The Engagement.

We all know that the Emperor is going to have a coronary.  I'm not sure about Xio Voe's mother.  I'm hoping his siblings will be surprised, but not utterly disgusted or disappointed.

What do you guys think?

History wasn’t a series of individual events, but a rich story where each plot affected the others.

I really believe that, once again, the Gods themselves are going to have to intervene - at least when it comes to the Emperor.  The man is probably going to have to take a metaphorical two ton ball bat to his head before he understands and accepts.  He's going to have to be reminded every five minutes that Xio Voe is The One Who Ushers in Change.

I don't think we know enough about them to really speculate.  But judging from Xio Voe's reaction about it, I'd say that if his siblings are trained up to be half as repressed and Empire-centric as he is, then they'll probably initially see it as a betrayal and echo their father.  At least at first.

I can't imagine it's easy being in Heir Voe's shadow.  They probably feel about as much resentment toward him as they do hero worship, so seeing him doing something so wildly against how they were raised, I'd guess it'd be a huge shock and they'll mirror their father's reaction until they start to draw their own conclusions.

I don't really know how they will react.  Hopefully the siblings will be more supportive once they realize that they like the new Xio Voe.  And have I said how I have a strong image in my head of Prince Xio Dei being hugged by the seven siblings?  Just because the kid really needs it.
