And so increases my massive dislike of Xio Sei. Not only do we have even more evidence (as if we needed any) that he's still doing is level best to erase the humanity from his children, but he's a faithless asshole, too. It occured to me that the Soracic gods could do literally anything and he'd just say "You can't prove it wasn't Anosukinom." Xio Sei, you  Cursing Talk to your priests, moron.

Poor Xio Kei, not confiding in anyone about his dream. He needs a  Group Hug and a trip to OA to hang out with Extra and some normal Anorian kids.

Vade trolling for a sexual conquest... Rolling on the Floor Laughing I hope he lands in the bed of someone titled, though, so he can maybe hear about The Scion and get to have an awkward conversation with Xio Voe. Is it bad of me to be hugely amused when our favorite Nosupolin royal twins blush and stammer?  Whistle

Ya know - that's a really great idea to have the Heir's three siblings visit Orina Anoris and hang out with the Royal Gift.  That would seriously enrich their lives.

And infuse a badly needed joie de vivre and some sense of humor.  These poor kids.  Their parents should be shot!

Xio Sei is very stubborn, it's true.  But Xio Sei is raising his kids the way he was raised, undoubtedly.  It's what he knows, so to him it's being the best parent they know how to be by setting the most stick-up-his-ass example possible.  Xio Voe is his crowning achievement and his greatest contribution to the legacy of his nation.  His crown jewel suddenly wanting to be reset in a new crown and change everything - it goes against everything he knows.

Anorians have also been their empire's ONLY rival for ages.  The only real threat to their world domination.  It is, essentially, his son and heir and pride and joy marrying his worst enemy, even if they haven't been at war with the Anorians.  If it ever came to war, the only real weapon they have against the Anorians and Anosukonim is Xio Voe and his national treasure of a brain.  And now Voe wants to marry into that.  To Xio Sei, I'm sure it looks like abandonment.

As for his siblings - Xio Voe had no idea what he was missing until Kudorin showed him.  He was an emotionless void.  I doubt he was that was as a child, and I'm sure his brothers and sister aren't quite there - though his sister seems close - but like Xio Sei, they have no idea that another way exists and can be right.  Their way and ideals are what they strive for.  So I doubt they'd MISS warmth the same way that someone raised to know what it was like to have it would.

That said, I think spending some time with  Extra would be good for them, too.

And yes, Xio Sei is a stubborn bugger, since he's being given a lot of persuasive arguments.  But i understand his hesitance I think, at least in part.

Vade wandering around looking for a lay is funny as hell.  And I like how Xio Voe respects Vade and Bade, and values talking to them.

It is reasonable that Xio Sei hesitate, yes. His decisions affect millions of people and his Heir marrying any foreign head of state is not something to be done lightly. And it hasn't been long, really, since Xio Voe came home and announced that he intended to wed Anosukinom--a couple days, I think. But he's not budging one bit, not conceding anything, even after being presented with compelling arguments. He hasn't even indicated that it might be a good idea to consult Soracic priests. It's like the total opposite of Xio Voe being able to immediately apply new information. Though I do wonder how he'd justify not talking to spiritual advisors after finding out about the dreams and speaking with Anosukinom.

And while kids are so often the product of their upbringing, someone (I think it was Kudorin) pointed out that they are around ther children often enough, like at school, to know that there is something very different about their family. Then again, they may just chalk it up to being the imperial family and different rules apply. Either way, two out of three of them having extremely significant dreams and not telling anyone is a symptom of a larger problem and I hope that Xio Voe (because I know the Emperor won't do it) will make more of an effort to normalize these kids, including Xio Wae.

There was something else that hit me: The imperial family is kind of big, isn't it? Traditionally, royal families don't have a lot of kids because they need an heir, a spare, and any more are kind of excessive. Until recently, Vade was, in his own words, redundant. Xio Sei and his empress had two more children than they really needed, but it works out way too perfectly for how Xio Voe wants to structure his reign to be coincidence or accidental. He needs a representative in the palace, a domestic ambassador, and a foreign ambassador in order to pull off sitting two thrones at once and not being able to leave the imperial palace. I wonder of someone is going to bring that up to the Emperor.

Wow, I hadn't read this yet... had it not been because of the Backstreet Boys concert or this bloody flu, I'd have read it sooner!!

Amazing part, Matthew, as always!!  You really are a superb writer.

The fact that Prince Xio Kei and Princess Xio Wae had divine visions about Xio Voe on the imperial throne while Anosukinom's husband is huge!!!  And it's a great twist!

And I do feel that the Emperor will need a bigger divine influence than that.  I wonder the his gods will give him prophetic dreams as well, so that he'll be able to see his empire's future and his son really happy.  It almost makes me feel that he doesn't care about his son's happiness.  Yes, he feels that Xio Voe's personal bliss is contained within the Jacacean Empire, but he has to know that it's not nearly good enough.  Maybe he should see what would happen if Xio oe and Anosukinom didn't get married (never gonna happen, but it would be a great comparison, don't you think?

Okay, my fever keeps spiking, so I'm off to bed.  Good night, everyone!  Let's all hope that I'll be better by tomorrow evening so that I can go to my BSB concerts over the weekend!!!

Pet Pet  Oh Vani I hope you feel better soon.

The best thing for me with this last chapter was Pricess Xio Wae's dream with Xio Voe talking affectionately/exasperatedly with  Kudorin at the end of it.  A normal day in the life of Emperor Xio Voe and Emperor  Kudorin

I agree with CourtneyLee, I want to smack Emperor Sei.  I don't think he's even apprached his Priests, unsightful man.  I wonder if he is afraid they will confirm what Xio Voe is saying as the truth.

I guess hundreds of years of predjudice is difficult to overcome BUT he is not stupid. Sad Head Shake

We all know that the Emperor hasn't consulted his priests, as Mountie says, unsightful man.

He will refuse to listen to reason until his gods do something very drastic.  I can't wait to see what that is.  They'll have to do more to convince him than they had to do to convince Xio Voe, that's for sure.

Not sure when I'll be able to read the next part... I fly to the UK on Saturday too see my beloved Backstreet Boys again.  I'd squeal, but my voice is in Hawaii taking a break, so I'll just do this:  Dancing.
