Quote
“The royal judge?” Bade asked, standing.  Now that he and the pharaoh were standing so close in the space between the chair and the table, he was captivated by the true smoothness of the pharaoh’s skin.  Not a blemish, not a wrinkle, not a mole, not a freckle, only pure perfection, like cream, like silk, like, oh, he was beginning to tingle…

The pharaoh stepped back.  “I wish for you and my brothers to know each other well.”

Frowning, Bade stepped closer again.  His skin began to tingle, faintly, like a slight and pleasant hum.  He leaned in-

-and the pharaoh stepped back.  “Your Highness?”

“What is that?” Bade asked, baffled, fascinated, bringing his hand near the pharaoh’s chest.  His fingertips buzzed, warmth singing up his arm.

The pharaoh didn’t move away this time, but he did say, with a soft smile, “Please do not make contact.”

“Why not?” Bade asked, immediately wanting to.  “What would happen if I did?”

            “You’d get hurt.”

Bade glanced around, looking for the guards who would carry out that threat.

The pharaoh smiled.  “You’d like to try it now, wouldn’t you?”

            “Yes,” Bade admitted.

“You may try,” the pharaoh said, “but I offer my apologies.”

Undeterred, Bade put his hand out, only to jerk back, shocked.

What I love about this chapter is that I learn so much about Orinia Anoris, it's people, the traditions, how close they are to their Gods.  I am amazed when I go over it to pull out a quote that it is all so seamless in the words that there is no one point that stands out, it all stands out, a shining example of the best way that I think I have ever had a culture and a family, characters introduced to me, where thay are all distinct and so well done.  Selorin and Bades tour of the palace is enlightening in so many ways.

It is also wonderful to know the outcome of what will come for Orinakin and read his and Kudorin's exchange and see how Kudorin is gently streering him to opening his heart so when the time comes he will be ready to accept his gift of love and a life partner.

I just went over this chapter again and I like how well Orinakin and Bade adjust to Orinakin hearing Bades thoughts.  When hearing Bade leads Orinakin to do think

Quote
Orinakin had brought very worthy candidates to Kudorin, now and before, and he’d had a few favorites, but he’d never felt this invested before.  He wanted Kudorin to choose Bade.  Marrying Kudorin and becoming king of Orina Anoris had meant different things to different suitors - - the position, the title, the power, the wealth, the duties, the country, Kudorin himself had been of varying interest to each man - - but Bade’s desire was so selfless yet so very nearly tangible that Orinakin wanted to pull Kudorin aside and tell him, “This is the one, this is your king, take him, marry him, give him what he needs.”

I find it telling that Orinakin wants Kudorin to marry Bade for Bades needs and not for Kudorins.  I learned a lot about Kudorin from Bade and his discussion, about Anikira's place and Kudorin's Kings place in his life and I learned

Quote
“Even in my few years as pharaoh, I have met with many visitors from many lands,” the pharaoh said, “but of them all, you are one with whom the gods find particular favor.  You have respected them and honored them.”

How much Bades sincerity and openess have endured him to the Anorian gods.  I think this is lovely.
