Now I'm having issues finding quotes. I'm tempted just to post the entire chapter...

Quote
“You will see,” Kudorin assured Bade.  “Anosamim Inanodat Orinakin A Nimi,” he said; Orinakin faced him, and they both made the sign of the gods.  “Close your eyes and clear your soul.”  As Orinakin’s eyes closed, Kudorin splayed one hand over Orinakin’s forehead and one on his chest.  “Breathe in,” Kudorin murmured.  “Slowly.  One,” and Orinakin inhaled.  “Two,” and he inhaled again.  “Three,” one more time, his chest rose and fell.  “The gods are with you,” Kudorin said, dropping his hands.

“Praise the gods,” Orinakin said, holding still.  Gradually, his eyes opened a crack, then halfway.

“It will settle,” Kudorin promised him, kissing his cheek.  “It’s time to see Extra, so I must go.  Close your eyes and count to ten, and you’ll be fine.”  With a smile for Bade, he left.

Fascinated, Bade crept closer, peering into Orinakin’s still face.  “What does it feel like?”

Seconds passed, and Orinakin’s eyes opened slowly.  “Oh,” he said, and inhaled, his shoulders relaxing, his expression uncertain.  “I feel stronger, more capable, and everything looks brighter and…sharper.”

“Do you know more?” Bade asked, touching his chin and gazing into his eyes, looking for a difference.  “What are you capable of now?”

His expression suddenly more focused, Orinakin looked at Bade with concentration.  Holding his breath, Bade waited for something to happen, but nothing changed.  Sighing, Orinakin relented, disappointment flickering before his expression cleared.  “Well, I can’t hear your thoughts, so I’m not capable of as much as I’d like.”

Shit.  Bade hated how much that still hurt.  “What can you do?”

“Oh, a few fun things,” Orinakin said.  “A few things that,” he grinned, “we might want to experiment with later.”

Horny Nosupolin alert!

Quote
Orinakin carried a globe in one hand.  The announcer rambled on, explaining how great and important the first Orinakin had been, how reaching out to other countries was a grand and noble cause.  Then, suddenly flying down from seemingly nowhere, Kudorin’s two doves attacked each other, in the space between Orinakin and the audience, diving and pecking.

Raising his hand, Orinakin stared at them.

As suddenly as it had begun, it ended, and the two doves flew gracefully around each other before going together off into the sky again.

Well-trained birds.  “Your boyfriend’s kind of powerful,” Vade whispered.  He nudged Bade.  “Did that make you hard?”

“Shut up,” Bade whispered.  “This is serious.”  Then, a beat later, “Yeah, kind of.”
