I hope so. It's been bugging me all week! Also, I want Xio Voe to get back to Orina Anoris. I hope Orinakin can convince the emperor to let it happen. I don't like Kudorin missing his love. 

Also, I want to know if Vade is going to have any unpleasant reminders of his night with the hot playboy or if the dude remembered protection. My fingers are crossed for Vade.

Meanwhile, my daughter and I are both . Thankfully, my seven month old son seems to have shrugged off the virus after a few days of coughing, so only two of us are sick. Ugh.

            Right over T’rin’s heart, he traced the symbol for Akanoti.  Beside it, the symbol for Ilanosa.  He kept going, Okanoti’s symbol underneath, then Inanodu’s.  He was mumbling to himself, whispering something about the gods’ mighty blessings.  He drew Itanoka and Setanoto’s symbols on T’rin’s forehead.  His fingers tingled and his heart was pounding and he wasn’t sure what he was saying, but he somehow seemed to know exactly what to say, exactly what to do.

            As he finished the last two, the eighteenth and nineteenth, tracing Tinanosa’s symbol across T’rin’s hipbone, then Anosukinom’s symbol on the other hip, his heartbeat slowed.  Flexing his fingers, he was relieved that they felt normal again.  Even the air seemed calmer.

            Okay.  Making the sign to the gods, he murmured his thanks and tucked himself in tightly against T’rin again.  Better, this was better.  T’rin was safer now, and even-

            Low, private, “Thank you, Kuladin,” T’rin whispered.

            Oh!  Of course T’rin had wakened during all of that; T’rin woke up if Rini’s eyes were open too long.  Not sure what else to say, Rini mumbled, “I had to,” and hoped that T’rin understood.

            T’rin just held him close.

            Relaxing in T’rin’s embrace, Rini let his eyes drift shut.  “I had to.”

I don't know why but this just made me tear up.  I look at T'rin's harsh and difficult life and I see all the harm that could go his way.  I feel Rini's sense of helplessness and fear, knowing that so many things can go wrong.  What else can he do but pray, and hope, and believe.


I love how  is so naughty sometimes.

“But, Xio Voe,” Anosukinom murmured, groaning softly and licking his lips, “this is entirely inappropriate.”

I guess we're going to have to wait regarding the mystery of Ritek supposedly visiting Hitari in jail.

And finally: 

It was really kind of messed up that Desin couldn’t go down on Ehlee unless he had a small dick.  It wasn’t his fault he was incredibly well-hung.

I love all the exchanges.  I was hopefull we would get more on Selorin/Hitari/Ritek but everything that we got was wonderful.  Something to look forward to next week.

Of them all I liked this one best. 

“Here’s what I’ll ask you to consider,” Orinakin said.  “You’re used to emotional privacy.  And it is incredibly valuable.  You have less of it, when I’m around.  But while you lose that, you gain someone who’s sensitive to what you’re going through, empathetic to your experiences and concerns, and proactive about getting you what you need.  No one else would’ve known that Kudorin was, I’ll guess, taunting you sexually.  But no one else would’ve suspended the meeting for it, either.”

            “Your point,” Xio Voe replied, “is understood.”

            “There’s a trade-off with almost everyone,” Orinakin mused, taking a seat at the table.  “Selorin always knows when you’re lying, so you can’t get away with much.  On the other hand, you can trust that he’ll be honest with you.  Dealing with Extra can be emotionally draining, but it can also be very emotionally rewarding.  You, well, you demand one hundred percent commitment and one hundred percent excellence in performance, but you also give that.”

            He could almost see Xio Voe decide to give in and play along.  “And Bade?” Xio Voe asked coolly.

            “Bade.”  Orinakin smiled.  “There’s no tradeoff, with Bade.  I never feel that I have to give up anything or make allowances for anything or give to him beyond my normal measure.  Bade is wonderfully accepting, and asks nothing.”

            “Asks nothing,” Xio Voe repeated.  “An interesting assertion to make regarding Prince Bade.”

            Laughing, Orinakin admitted, “Well, there is that.  But I can’t even claim that it bothers me.  It may irritate others, though, to be interrogated at a rate of twenty questions per thirty-second interval.”

            “I don’t mind it,” Xio Voe replied.  “It may, as you say, irritate others, but I am glad to encourage an intellectually curious mind.”

            “I’m only glad that I know so much,” Orinakin admitted.  “I would hate to disappoint him with my ignorance.”

            Xio Voe gave him an assessing glance.  “Although the bulk of your curriculum was centered on your primary field, you are extremely intelligent and extensively educated.  I do recommend, however, that you permit me to address his scientific and mathematical questions.”

            “I certainly will,” Orinakin said.  “Those, and anything relating to autopsies, I will let you deal with.”  He shuddered.  “For you to be The Heir, with the entire world before you, and for you to choose to study anatomy and forensics voluntarily, simply for the pursuit of knowledge and to advance Jacacean medicine, you have proven yourself a good man.  A stronger, more self-sacrificing man than I.”

            “I will achieve the throne someday,” Xio Voe said.  “You will forever live in Anosukinom’s shadow.  I will stamp my name upon the world.  You are differentiated only by a number.  Yet you work tirelessly, ceaselessly, to do Anosukinom’s bidding, to benefit other people in other countries.  I have never seen you put yourself, your own needs, your self-interest, first.  I didn’t trust that in you, initially.  I didn’t believe that anyone could be so confident yet so selfless at once.  I misjudged you.”

            Surprised, Orinakin said, “Thank you, Heir Voe.  That’s very kind of you.  I know that you’ll understand me and believe me when I say that I’ve never minded being in Kudorin’s shadow.  I’ve never minded being part of a larger legacy.  I don’t need my own fame.  I don’t need my own name to be recognized.  I only want to uphold the reputation that everyone who came before me worked so hard to raise.  I was born to be one of the Seven Siblings, and I have no need for anything beyond that.”

            “In part because there is the risk that my individual greatness will overshadow the rest, I never remove myself from my context,” Xio Voe said.  “I am Xio.  I am Jacacea.  My greatness only reflects on the Eternal Empire.  I do not seek success for myself.  I do it for the good of the Jacacean Empire.”

            “And I am Orinakin,” Orinakin replied.  “I am the face of the nation.  I am the representative of Anosukinom.  I would never be so bold as to represent myself.  I would not wish for distinctive clothing or a different name.  I can be an individual when I am alone with Bade.  Here, when I am the royal diplomat?  Let me be interchangeable with the generations which came before me.  I am not unique.  I am the man who fills the gap between Anosukinom and the rest of the world.”

            “A role which can only be filled by someone unique,” Xio Voe said.

            Orinakin smiled.  “You’re very complimentary this afternoon.”

            Xio Voe seemed to consider the notion.  “Perhaps Anosukinom has left me in a generous mood.”

            Orinakin made a mental note of that.  He might need to use it to his advantage someday.

I'm aklready loving T'rin and Rini, but I feel slightly bad for Rini at the moment.  Awe.

I'm slightly confused with Ehlee... because, as far as I'm aware, it's almost like he's asking Desin to literally turn him into a woman.  Though it could just be that he's so overwhelmed with Desin's.. amazingness (new word, go with it) that he doesn't know how else to explain it.

I don't know why, but I absolutely love this line!

I agree that all the ones you mentioned were great moments of brightness in the Chapter.  I don't think Desin is going to talk Ehlee into receiving any play but it was nice of him to try.

But don't women in Ehlee's culture go down on men?  If so, why would he be so against Desin doing it?  Do you think that it's because he's a prince and doesn't want him to 'lower' himself 'down' to that level?  I guess in some cultures, it'd be considered degrading, but I don't know about Ehlee...

IIRC it has to do with the roles a gay couple take in Ehlee's culture and the tradition of "being a woman" to religously experience your feminine side.  The male with the larger penis is the male partner and the smaller one is the female and since "females" don't have penises then no contact can be made with the female partners penis.  Which is sad because that is like having ones clit ignored just because.  I hope Desin can convince Ehlee but since it is a religious experience for Ehlee I don't imagine he will succeed.

Xio Voe keeps making me fall in love with him!

“You are an intelligent, ethical young man.  I am glad that I can trust you.”

            It had, he noticed, been the right thing to say.  The boy’s eyes widened, and he suddenly stood taller, his spine straightening, his shoulders back.  “Yes, Your Highness.”  He looked as if he’d just been handed a great gift.  A long looked-for treasure.

            It would be good to reinforce this.  “You know,” and Xio Voe leaned down with his hands braced on his knees until he was eye-to-eye with the boy, “I’m counting on you, the princess, and Prince Xio Kei, to help me.  The three of you are the only brothers and sisters I have, and I’m going to require your assistance in many ways.  You’re going to be a very important part of my,” he’d intended to say “government,” but he felt a prickle at the back of his neck and switched to, “life, and I’m going to rely on you.  Will you be the intelligent, honest, mature young man I need you to be?”

            While Prince Xio Dei stared at him as if he were bizarrely foreign and somewhat alarming, Xio Voe waited for a reply.  “Yes, Your Highness.  Yes, I’ll,” he stared into Xio Voe’s eyes as if dazed by who stared back, “do whatever you ask of me, I’ll do anything you want.”

            They were this far along already; Xio Voe decided to continue to the next step.  “I need you to love me.”  Resting his hand on the boy’s shoulder again, he added, “Not only as The Heir, but also as your brother.  If we love each other, then we will be close to each other, and we will work well together.”

Isn't this the most perfect combination of the old Xio Voe and the new post-falling in love Xio Voe? I think this may be the first time he's differentiated between himself as The Heir and himself as an individual separate from his title. I'd thought that it would happen with , but I'm really happy that it happened with his little brother.

And I agree with Mountie re: Desin going down on Ehlee. When Ehlee is with Desin, he becomes a woman. If Desin were to go down on him, it would go against his cultural and religious values. I can understand Desin wanting to do it, but I know that he'll respect Ehlee's wish if Ehlee says no once and for all. But man, oh, man, I can't wait to read Kasu's reacion to Desin's request that he interpret that particular conversation. 

Rini and T'rin...it's the beginning of the end. Which is sad, definitely. I like them together and I'm looking forward to them eventually talking about things more instead of avioding them. I do understand that avoidance, though, and was sad that they had to talk about the future in this chapter.

Naughty Kudorin, interrupting the writing and signing of your own marriage contract to tease your betrothed! And yet, it didn't surprise me in the least. It's so...Kudorin.  I do like that Orinakin and Xio Voe seem to be becoming friends. Hopefully Kudorin will keep Xio Voe in a frequent state of post-orgasmic pliability and he'll make friends easier in Orina Anoris.

I like how we get to see how certain cultures have diffrent views on the moons. We got to hear Trin's and now Ehlees.
