In the last chapter Vade committed a crime against the State and in this one Selorin finds out.  Selorin takes Vade to task on "seeing if I could get away with it".    Do you believe Selorin is justified in his dressing down of Vade?  I think Selorin is right in dressing Vade down even if Kudorin and the other brothers condone it and Xoe Voe participates in the duplicity.  Vade acted impulsively while trying to see if he could get away with fooling someone that he was Bade.

Quote
“Get away with it?” Selorin repeated.  “You wanted to see if you could get away with it?!  You arrogant, self-absorbed fool, do you have any idea how many crimes are committed, how many lives are ruined, how many long-lasting consequences still reverberate through every community, because someone wanted to see if he could ‘get away with it?!’  If you-”

He and Selorin had argued before, but Selorin had never been like this, eyes flashing with anger, words lashing out at him, body rigid with righteous indignation.  This wasn’t an argument, wasn’t a debate, wasn’t a theoretical exercise.  Selorin was mad at him in a way he’d never expected and never wanted to experience again.  Selorin’s anger hurt him in a place only family could gouge.  Selorin seemed so genuinely offended, was taking this so seriously, he had to respect Selorin’s feelings on the matter, and didn’t offer a word in his own defense.  Prepared to absorb Selorin’s anger and try to put everything back together later, he was surprised when Remin’s calm, authoritative voice said, from behind him, “Take one deep breath and two steps back, Diki.”

It is the idea behind the crime not the actual crime itself that has Selorin upset and frankly I think he expected better of Vadeas he pointed out later.  I also think that Vade learned a valuable lesson about Selorin that broadened his understanding of Selorin and that is all good.

One of the things I like best about Talin is his matter of fact acceptance that he and Anosanim are attached at the hip and that he wouldn't have it any other way.  I remember posting quotes as I have gone along in this re-read about the difficulties that Talin and Anosanim have had with their acceptance that each others strengths are the others divine roles in life.  I really think Talin encapulates it well in this chapter when he said:

Quote
Talin grinned.  It was nice of Anosanim to want to give him time alone with Hitari, but if he was going to Satatunin, Anosanim was going with him.  If he went anywhere, Anosanim was going with him.  They’d entered the world together, and Talin saw no reason to start going their separate ways now.

The other important event for me in this chpter for me was Rini discovering T'rins tattoo

Quote
Lifting T’rin’s hand, he ran his thumb over the inside of T’rin’s wrist, over his name.  Le’eton.  One who is more.  Kuladin.  He’d never been important enough to be tattooed on someone’s body before.  “You keep giving me gifts that mean so much more than what anyone else has ever given me.  I should be the one giving to you.”

“You give to me.”  Whispering his name, “Kuladin,” T’rin kissed him, stroking his body and holding him close to T’rin’s heat.  “You have given me hope.  You have given me a goal far beyond anything I had imagined.  You have given my clan a future.  You have given me a new life.  I will never be able to give you anything to match what you have given me.  But I will live and die in service to your name.”

I believe that T'rin and Rini have a complex relationship, it is already layered on T'rins part and I am glad that Rini is trying to make it more on his part.
