I was talking with Jae (surprise, surprise) and we ended up on the topic of food and cooking in the ITL universe, since it seems to come up fairly often, between Remin's enthusiastic eating, various dinners, various festivals, and the like.
So my questions is, which god oversees cooking? Who do chefs pray to? It doesn't seem like something that's easily categorized. Do master chefs, who basically create edible art, pray to Alanohi? What about someone who's just interested in creating a good, hearty, nutritious meal, with no regard for how it looks? Inanodu? Or do they pray to Ebanosa when cooking vegetables, and Edanola when preparing fish, and Matanori when serving up a slab of beef? It says somewhere that all Anorians are drawn to one god or another; are all chefs drawn to a specific deity, or does it vary?
...and am I crazy insane for wondering about this?

Why ITL fans should not speak on the phone:
Jae: I love Xio Voe. I want to nom him. Nom nom nom. Rhia: Don't chew on the Heir to the Jacacean Empire, dear. Jae: But I want to! Why must you kill my dreams?

Hey! I think that's a really good question! And I think that Xio Voe would also love to know more on the subject, since he's so unsatisfied with the food he's been eating in Orina Anoris. You're not insane for wondering about this, it's a valid thing to be wondering .

History wasn’t a series of individual events, but a rich story where each plot affected the others.

I'm thinking it's mainly Ebanosa (harvest, trees, forests, crops, plants, flowers) for just cooking. If it gets into the culinary arts it's probably Alanohi (art, poetry, prose, dance, song, music, paintings, sculpture, jewelry).
I think anyone can pray to Alanohi to make anything they are making beautiful. A house, a carriage, a garden, pastry, whatever.
Matanori (wild animals, livestock, pets) and Edanola (river, fish, wells, kelp, turtles, fogs, crocodiles, boats, sailing) maybe while things are alive before you cook it?
I think they use all the gods and overlap as many as possible on things. I'd call on any one of them that I thought might have a hand in whatever I was doing.

am I crazy insane for wondering about this Not at all. It's actually a good question, because the answer's not immediately clear. I'd say what y'all have suggested, that it involves different gods. If you're just providing a meal for nutrition, you'd thank the gods who supplied the food: Matanori, Ebanosa, Edanola. If you're trying to demonstrate your great skill, you'd pray to Alanohi. If you're making a romantic dinner to impress your new boyfriend, Ilanosa. -Matthew

And if you want to do all of those at once , pray to all of them .
So a romantic overachiever of a devout chef who wants to make food that is nutritious, gorgeous, and likely to make someone fall in love with him? ...are we contemplating potential husbands for Remin again? Thanks for all of the wonderful answers! That makes a great deal of sense. I wonder what other disciplines are like that, with people praying to different gods for help with what is, essentially, the same task.

I'm thinking that architecture is kind of like that - both form and function, which is why Anosanim makes the perfect Royal Architect. There's an art to making strong buildings look pretty or intimidating or whatever else they need to be.

Right, I think that's what Anotheism is about. It's like deity soup and you just add gods as needed to whatever you are doing. Anosanim is a good example. In India they have a huge pantheon of gods and I'm sure you pray to more than one god for the same thing. Like you might pray to whoever you think would be involved. It must be somewhat similar. - Diamond
