I know we started this somewhere else, but we need it going here. Favorite ITL quotes!!
From 123:
Talin shrugged. “The most mundane things surprise people.”
Yes, well, “Quite often, they surprise mundane people.”

One of the best threads ever! Just to be on-topic: ITL 69: “I’m used to seeing you among our Anorian crowds, but with this new backdrop, all of the colors and styles of foreign royalty, your dramatic beauty stands out even more.” Sighing, gazing at Talin, running his fingers through Talin’s hair, Anosanim wore an admiring, dreamy expression. “You’re so beautiful, Talin, you capture all of the attention in the room.”
Although it was possible, it was unlikely that Anosanim had pulled him aside just to discuss how attractive he was.The best part: it's totally possible. -Matthew

ITL 69:
“I’m used to seeing you among our Anorian crowds, but with this new backdrop, all of the colors and styles of foreign royalty, your dramatic beauty stands out even more.” Sighing, gazing at Talin, running his fingers through Talin’s hair, Anosanim wore an admiring, dreamy expression. “You’re so beautiful, Talin, you capture all of the attention in the room.”
Although it was possible, it was unlikely that Anosanim had pulled him aside just to discuss how attractive he was.
It just occurred to me that one of the reasons Anosanim is always talking about how good Talin looks is because Anosanim likes to look in the mirror and looking at Talin is like looking at a red version of himself. I think he's constantly admiring how stunning he'd look with dramatic red hair. My quotation [ITL 93.3]: Power. It was power. It crackled around him, raising the hair on his arms, stiffening his nipples. He could feel it. The sun was lower, already; he could see the difference. That meant that time was passing at a different speed than he was experiencing it.
The pressure in the air made it hard to move, made it nearly impossible, but Xio Voe chose not to bend to the impossible. He forced himself forward, straining to slide his feet, pushing himself onward. His progress was so slow he barely moved, but the nearer he drew to the pharaoh, the more pressure beat in around him, the more power crackled over his body, the more he felt compelled onward.
He wanted to be close to that power. He wanted to experience more of it. He wanted to touch it, to pull it into himself. It was a literal, physical manifestation of something he’d been reaching for all of his life.
His entire being focused on the man crouching before a glorious celebration of color, his lungs burning, his muscles shaking, straining for one more quarter-inch, Xio Voe crossed the balcony.I think this quotation sums up Xio Voe perfectly. This is fundamentally what he's about. Xio Voe wants power, if you know that, you know Xio Voe. The reason he's all about learning is because knowledge is power. The reason he's all about being the heir/emperor is because ruling is power. He wants to marry Kudorin because Kudorin is all powerful. This is one of the things that makes Xio Voe so tasty. - Diamond

From chapter 98:
Or… Xio Voe felt something hot trickle and shiver through him. Did the pharaoh prefer what Anorians referred to as lovesex? The pharaoh was so very Anorian, such an unrepentant cialex, that he probably wanted sex to be the kind of intimate and ecstatic experience that Xio Voe had once scoffed at as an impossible and romantic notion. The kind of sex, the kind of lovesex, that was somehow more intense than what Anorians called lustsex and Xio Voe just considered sex, period. Slower, on occasion, and intimate, sensual, with much whispering of names and endearments, a great deal of stroking and caressing and kissing, emotions simmering in every touch, shared joy in each thrust. Orgasm still seemed to be the main goal, and sexual proficiency still seemed to be admired, but the entire experience seemed so steeped in emotions, in love, in sharing, that it wasn’t any kind of sex that Xio Voe recognized or had ever experienced.
He was as good at sex as he was at everything else, but he’d never done that. Sex had never been about intimacy or vulnerability, had never been about someone else’s pleasure except when it was really about displaying his own sexual prowess in creating that pleasure. Yet when he thought of the pharaoh engaging in lovesex, thought of the pharaoh sharing slow, deep kisses and teasing someone’s skin with a loving, arousing caress and sliding intimately against someone’s body and whispering intimate words, a kind of ache shuddered through his heart and he felt unsure, uneasy, aroused and, somehow, upset.
Shutting those feelings out of existence, Xio Voe took a deep breath and ignored his arousal, turning his mind to math.
He's Bade!! Six times seven minus three divided by one million...

My favorite quote from the last chapter [123.14]
...but it also struck him as belittling to consider Talin simply another aspect of Anosanim.
“An odd rumination, from someone who has devoted his life, in fact his very being, in service to his older brother,” Kudorin said, in a musing tone designed to be irritating.
Crossing his arms over his chest, Remin glared up at him. “I have devoted myself in service to my gods. If one of those gods is also an annoying man, that’s just something I have to endure.”
Remin made me laugh on that one

93: Defeated, Desin groaned. After years of hearing about Ritek stealing his friends’ partners, Desin was going to watch Ritek climb into bed with his younger brother. If that wasn’t watching Ritek win the whole game, Desin didn’t know what was. “I’m going to have to fuck his sisters,” Desin realized. All of them. And maybe some of his cousins. “Is Sosu Parike married?” ...I'm afraid that the ones I remember best aren't the profound ones, but the ones that made me laugh like a hysterical hyena on drugs and startle the cats.

I love how sure Desin is that he'll get to have sex with them. Like if he wants to, he'll be able to. What's even better is, I'm pretty confident that he's right.
Tossing this out just to stay on-topic, from ITL 123:
“They weren’t just portraits. It was like a human being looking out through those cold, dead eyes. Someone was actually in there. It’s like if a corpse suddenly looked at you, or like if a statue was suddenly alive and had a soul. It was horrible and beautiful and scary and, I don’t know, I felt like I knew him and I understood him and I wanted to touch him. It was like,” he touched Orinakin’s thigh, “what am I feeling?”
“Compassion,” Orinakin said.

Personally, except for "He made my water bubble!", my favorite "lines" are actually whole scenes - like when Anosanim confronts Etaki and issues a smackdown Royal Anorian style or where the Pharaoah faces down all those Warriors in his throne room. Just absolutely mesmerizing scenes rendered by a fabulous writer.

In my continued quest to stay on-topic, I offer lines from ITL 54: With a wounded sigh, Vade put on his best self-pitying expression. “No one in Nosupolis will recognize my ‘I’d like a bela now’ look, and even if anyone did, it would do me no good.”
“That is a shame,” Bade said. “I wouldn’t be at all surprised to learn that you somehow orchestrated all of this, including my marriage, just to provide yourself with an excuse to visit the belams.”
“Yeah,” Vade said. “Tiko’s probably going to accuse me of the same thing.”

“Yeah,” Vade said. “Tiko’s probably going to accuse me of the same thing.”Funny story, I'm reading that scene right now, since I went back to reread Orinakin's proposal. From 53: Glancing back over his shoulder, Bade looked at the line of carriages snaking along the path to the landing grounds. “I can’t believe that you’re dragging fifteen belas to the balloon to say good-bye to you.”
“It was their idea!” Vade protested. “They volunteered for it, and got permission from the queen. It’s not my fault.” Turning his gaze on Orinakin, he asked, “It’s not typical for all of the Seven Siblings to escort visitors to the balloons, is it? You don’t always do this, all seven - - eight - - of you, do you?”
“No,” Orinakin admitted. “We each, separately, seem to have decided to see you to the balloon, independent of each other. I’m not sure what the reason is.” As he shrugged lightly, one corner of his mouth quirked upward. “Maybe they like you, after all.”
“After all?” Vade repeated. “Of course they like me. I’m immensely likable.”
“They’re probably just eager to get rid of you,” Bade said. “Or they want to make sure that you don’t try to abscond with one of the belas.”
“Of course I won’t do anything that absurd,” Vade said. “I’m going to abscond with three of the belas. One wouldn’t be nearly enough on those cold winter nights.”

Chapter 56:
Sliding his fingers through thick, silky hair, cupping Orinakin’s nape, Bade leaned down for a kiss, Orinakin’s lush mouth opening for him as a flower blooming under the sun.
“Remin?” Orinakin murmured, hands sliding up his chest to his shoulders.
“Mmm,” Bade said, loving his mouth. “Tiko’s bad poetry.”
Ah, siblings.

Chapter 58:
“Fortunately for me, you always do.” Yawning, Vade wriggled cozily, pulling the covers up. “Let’s go to Satatunin and relax there for a week while Orinakin and the pharaoh and everyone deal with our parents.”
“But then you’d miss the festival.”
Vade jumped at the sound of a third voice and looked over his shoulder. Bade’s mouth fell open as Kudorin stepped out of the bathroom. Out of the - - what had Kudorin been doing in his bathroom?!
“Well,” Kudorin said, scratching his forehead as if giving the matter serious consideration, “there’s always the obvious.”
Vade’s jaw dropped.
Bade stuttered and stammered.
Anosukinom actually rolled his eyes at them. Bade hated to think of all of the times that the gods might have rolled their eyes at him before. He hadn’t realized that gods even did that. Then again, according to Anorians, gods didn’t necessarily have eyes to roll.

Chapter 64:
“Sure.” Vade’s fingers tucked into a fist. “The greatest of joys begins today,” he added in Nosupolin, and hurried away.
“What?” Rini asked.
Selorin translated it for him as Orinakin resumed his place in the chair, the hairdresser right back to work.
“It’s a traditional blessing,” Orinakin said. “It used to refer to the idea of the newly married couple conceiving their first child on the night of their wedding.”
“Hunh,” Rini said. “If that happens to you guys tonight, be sure to let me know.”
“Believe me,” Orinakin said, “if either one of us gets pregnant, everyone will know.”

Always happy to see Orinakin, even after only minutes apart, Bade grinned at him. “Heir Voe has offered to show us his laboratory.” He has another secret one he won’t let us into. I don’t know why he has two, unless he just likes being mysterious. The second one is probably where he stores his personality.

I really like this one from chapter 125:
“Hey, and if you want to have a my-twin-brother-just-got-engaged, my-world-will-never-be-the-same party, Selorin and I are totally available,” Vade said. “If you’re interested.”
I thought that was really cute and clever.
And I also loved Fet Kailoe's thought...
He couldn’t let go of the threads that bound them. But he could make Orinakin sever them.
I thought that was really really sad and very moving!

Found it! I knew it was 'back there' somewhere. Re reading (again) so I found it!
Part 20, middle. Anikira talking to Bade, both about he and Orinakin and Kudorin finding his king.
“The gods put us into each other’s paths for a reason.” Anikira smiled. “Sometimes, I think, we put too much effort into figuring out what that reason is. And, other times, too little.”

Chapter 114:
Hitari met Talin’s eyes. Hitari was a brilliant model, capable of conveying a hundred thoughts and emotions in a look. His current expression clearly said, “Shit. You’re right. He looks lost, confused, and desperate. Should I go get Anosanim to come down here before Ritek storms the house to find him?”

Ch117:
Anosukinom laughed. “I find you very charming. Your blunt candor, your pride, your intelligence, your dry wit, are all endearing.”
What Anosukinom labeled “pride,” others had called “the unmitigated gall to be a self-absorbed, self-important, blindly ambitious, authoritarian, condescending, domineering, patronizing, presumptuous, supercilious, vain, swaggering, pretentious, pompous, haughty, disdainful, conceited, self-centered, self-satisfied, smug despot.” But Anosukinom’s bias had to be taken into account.

117 again:
Bursting into laughter, Xio Voe sat back, on the mattress, one knee casually up, head back. Stunned, Kudorin stared, dazed, entranced. Xio Voe was laughing, outright laughing, and it was a beautiful sight, his long neck exposed, his body relaxed. A beautiful sound, deep, rich. A beautiful feeling: Kudorin could feel him, felt the happiness he radiated. Gods above, happiness, Xio Voe was happy, happy enough for Kudorin to feel it, to revel in it, to snatch up every shred of it and savor the moment. Xio Voe was laughing.
Amusement simmering, Xio Voe smiled at him, a smile that sent warmth all through Kudorin down to his toes. “Shall I take that as my answer?”

A rare and treasured gift: a low, amused chuckle. Kudorin’s head snapped up, eyes widening in joy as he caught a glimpse of Xio Voe’s brief but stunning smile. “That’s thoughtful of you. Your family and guests would have appreciated it.”

As Talin trudged back towards the house, Hitari at his side, he heard the scrape of the saw begin again, and smiled.
“Anosanim was up all night doing carpentry work,” Hitari said. “I’ve seen you doing construction and repairs, but never in six-inch heels and a knee-length skirt.”
Talin shrugged. “Anosanim has better legs than I do.”
Hitari laughed. “Let me guess. You’re going to start breaking things so he’ll have something to fix?”
Grinning, Talin slid an arm around Hitari’s waist. “Whatever keeps him happy.”

Awesome. To stay on-topic, from "A Prince's Tale": He heard, in a soft whisper, low, gentle words. “Forgive me, Your Highness.” A light, almost tender caress down his side. A kiss across his nape made him bow his head. “I thought that if you desired me, you would ask for me. I should have realized that it was my duty to come to you. I would’ve been here long ago, if I’d known.” -Matthew

Against him, gripping him close, Talin wished that he could take Hitari’s pain into himself, that he could make up for all of the suffering Hitari had endured. “If you agree to this, if you say yes, then we’ll get married. I will not,” his voice hardened, because they both remembered Hitari’s penchant for sabotage, “will not let you leave me. It’ll be you and me, the two of us, for the rest of our lives. If we have a happy life of art and romance, if we have a dull life of boredom and apathy, if we have a horrible life of going for each other’s throats and tearing at each other’s souls, it makes no difference. You’ll never rid yourself of me, and I’ll never be without you.” With a soft sound like a sob, Hitari laughed, his fingers threading through Talin’s hair. “Anoha Ilanosa,” he said, his voice shaking. “How could I say no to that? Yes, Lini. All right. I’ll marry you.”
One of my favorites!

From 127:
“As I thought,” Xio Voe murmured. “This stone,” he met Kudorin’s eyes, “is the most valuable item I’ve ever held.”
On its own, Kudorin’s gaze slid down Xio Voe’s body to-
“Your sense of humor is alarmingly juvenile.”
“Your dick is alarmingly gorgeous,” Kudorin said. “I’m surprised that you don’t touch yourself more often.”

I loved this quote from Rini!
136.19 "My friend’s cousin’s friend’s neighbor’s sister lives next door to them, and they’re best friends..."
It reminds me of Ferris Bueller's Day Off - love that movie and the quote that this reminds me of:
"Um, he's sick. My best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with the girl who saw Ferris pass out at 31 Flavors last night. I guess it's pretty serious."

I had to read over that at least twice to make sure that it didn't circle back or contradict itself. To contribute to the thread, also from Rini, from ITL 136: I don’t want you to look at me and think of my intestines or anything. -Matthew

Resurrecting the thread because there have been some fantastic lines in the past several chapters: Anosanim tried to put Talin’s arguments together. “So the only reason I’m not bathed in cum right now is that I love my work, and I’m picky?”
“Yep.”
Oh. Anosanim watched Talin file his nails and considered the idea. “Well, it’s good that I have a lot of interests.”
“Art, architecture, and dick,” Talin said. “It keeps you busy.” Bade briefly reflected on the various aspects of Orinakin and Vade being watched by the same people who’d watched him and Orinakin, although before that had included Xio Voe, who’d recently made out with Orinakin for Kudorin, who couldn’t have sex with Xio Voe but had had sex in front of Bade, who’d used to court Kudorin himself, before marrying Orinakin, who had recently been haunted by the history of his ancestor, Xio Voe’s ancestor’s lover.
Maybe all of that wasn’t weird or kinky by Anorian standards, but it was a little more complex than Bade had expected his personal life to become, back in Nosupolis. And even though this was posted already, it gives me such a laugh that it bears repeating: “This stone,” he met Kudorin’s eyes, “is the most valuable item I’ve ever held.”
On its own, Kudorin’s gaze slid down Xio Voe’s body to-
“Your sense of humor is alarmingly juvenile.”

& Xio Voe from 148 “Your mouth is so gorgeous, I could beg you for a kiss. I want to spend the rest of my life as the gloss on your lower lip.”
Ridiculous. And, “I don’t wear lip gloss.”
Anosukinom sighed dreamily, gazing at his mouth like a lovestruck cialex. “I know. That’s probably a good thing. If you did, I’d just masturbate more.” I love these two And from just a bit further on: “That’s infatuation.” To tell the truth, “I experience the same impulse in regards to you. But it isn’t lasting. The books suggest that it’s a phase, not a permanent state of being.”
“Xio Voe.” Anosukinom’s tone was solemn. “There’s something that I have to tell you. It may,” he took a deep breath. “It may upset you.”
Unlikely. “I’m not easily upset.”
Nodding gravely, Anosukinom sighed again. “Not all books are entirely accurate.”
Xio Voe regarded him dryly. “Your sense of humor is highly entertaining.”

“Historically, if a member of the imperial family were to be found guilty of treason, measures would be taken. I suspect that you would object to being jailed, exiled, or beheaded.”
Kudorin smiled. “I would, yes.” ITL 161.10

& from Chapter 153 Smiling and melting inside, Kudorin ran his fingertips over the letters. “He opened himself up to me. He let me change him. He’s going back to them a different man.”
“I wonder if they’ll appreciate all of your hard work,” Remin said. “They may prefer him less empathetic and more distant.”
“And I’d prefer it if sunshine were edible,” Kudorin said, “but we don’t always get everything we ask for.” Where do you come up with such idea's Matthew?

I found another ones that makes my heart melt... This one is from Chapter 86 With a happy sigh, Rini flopped across the king’s throne, his short skirt riding up his slender thighs. “I missed this.” Taking a good, long look around the throne room, he felt peace settle into him. That might have been because of the room’s aura, its brightness and space and color and the general sense of the gods’ closeness; or it might have been because Kudorin was sitting right beside him, exuding warmth. Turning his head, he smiled at Kudorin. “What were you up to while I was gone?”
Kudorin smiled. “Loving you.”

I am rereading Chapter 99 and found a couple I really like: & Vade made me laugh Selorin had missed Vade, and Vade’s innocence, and Vade’s candor, and how easy it was to act condescending and ruffle Vade’s feathers. “Do you honestly believe that The Heir is tall enough to be compared to a giant?”
Vade’s eyes narrowed. “What are you doing here, anyway? Shouldn’t you be busy collecting boyfriends? Or are all of the local men tired of your pompous, self-centered arrogance?”
Selorin raised his eyebrows. “I ask you a simple question and you resort to insults. That’s very mature of you. It amazes me that Orinakin chose Bade over you.”
“I landed only minutes ago and you’ve already managed to slander my intelligence and my character. I’m amazed that Bade chose Orinakin over you.”
Selorin couldn’t hide a grin. Vade was as feisty as ever. He must have missed having someone to fight with. And to “We’re princes, Anosanim. We need boyfriends like cows need forks. Don’t waste your time.”

I LOVED this... maybe the suggestion that Remin needs to marry a Bela isn`t far fetched. “To get me to watch without participating, you’d have to tie me down,” Remin said. “And since I have enough experience with bondage and the sulatim to escape from any shackles, I don’t think that anyone - - even you, Selorin A Diki - - could bind me well enough to keep me in place.”
Great Grengar. Bade’s overwhelmed mind dissolved into wordless, dazed lust.
“We’ll miss you,” Orinakin told Remin. “Will you do me the favor of inviting Vade?” he asked Selorin. “Bade and I have something to take care of first.”
“Mmm.” Remin sighed fondly. “The first, quick fuck, before the orgy, to take the edge off. I remember that. It never worked for me. It only made me rabidly horny.”
“Which is different from your normal state of being in what way?” Selorin asked.
“There are some days,” Remin murmured, “when I think of marrying the first bela I see.”
“That doesn’t sound quite right,” Selorin said.
“Every day,” Remin snapped. “I think of that every day. It’s so tempting. So right. The perfect solution. If I married Tepeni, I would never want for anything in my life.”

LOL I feel sometimes like I could just quote a whole chapter from 129 “Love is one of the easiest emotions there are. And one of the most difficult. It’s simple and complicated, a joy and a torment, wonderfully real and slippery with intangibility. Love brings out the best in us, if we let it, and the worst in us, if we allow it. Love is a beautiful and simple and complex thing

Ooooo... found another treasure. & Vade from 132: “Why do you let him win at everything all of the time?” Vade asked. “He’s so smug and arrogant and self-righteous, don’t you ever just want to prove him wrong? Or beat him at something?”
Orinakin laughed, empathizing with Vade’s injured pride. “I beat Selorin at everything all day long. I’m older, I’m more handsome, I’m more influential, I have more interesting friends, I have Bade, I have a much more exotic and important and entertaining job, my assistants are smarter, my clothes look better. The only area, really, where he’s beat me, is that his twin is much more fun and interesting than mine.”

I'm just going to keep posting these... Now it is & 's turn. “Your side of the line?” Talin demanded. In direct contradiction to what Anosanim had just said, he literally pushed Anosanim, shoving him. “You never even stayed on your side of the womb! We don’t have sides! We share everything!”
“We can’t! You need space, you have your own life, I’m trying so hard to-”
“I don’t want my own life!” Gripping Anosanim’s wrist, Talin yanked him close, shouting directly into his shocked, wet face. “I don’t want my own life! I can’t imagine why I’d ever have my own life. We have our life. My life doesn’t just have you in it, it has you all over it. I can’t move without tripping over you, and, the gods know, that’s how I want it.”

I loved that rant from Talin. It almost made me cry. I remember very distinctly that Selorin said once that he's rather have a disagreement with Orinakin than see Anosanim and Talin and odds and that was so telling. The younger twins are two halves of the same person. A rift between them was painful for everyone.

We have had some great ones recently bit I think this is my fav so far from Chapter 169.6 “I want to court you and treat you and delight you,” Kudorin said, and then he smiled, adding, “But I know that you don’t want me to give you pretty bouquets and romantic poems and sweet kisses. You want rare specimens and ancient documents and the inside of my liver.”

I keep coming back to this one and sighing and basking in Bade and Orinakin's love. “I won’t insult Heir Voe’s beautiful gift, or downplay the love that he has for Kudorin. But knowing that wherever we go, wherever we are, whether we’re together or apart or halfway around the world, nestled in the heart of the place I call home, in a stronghold ruled by a god, there’s a little box holding our love, keeping it safe, keeping it eternal…” Orinakin’s gorgeous, purple, lilac-tipped lashes lowered, his lips parting ever so slightly, and Bade kissed him, helpless not to, a soft press of lips, a tender flick of tongue, Orinakin’s fingers caressing his cheek, Orinakin’s voice a private whisper. “It’s a beautiful gift, vinga. It makes me feel that our love is safe, that it will last forever. It means more to me than any pile of jewels or expanse of land or number of horses. I love that it came from you, that it’s part of your heritage, that you designed it just for me. It’s romantic and it’s ours and it’s just a little bit magical. It’s perfect.”

I love this scene: “He’s alone,” Kudorin said, stopping in mid-air. “He was speaking with Dranz, but now he’s walking with only passersby to see him. That’s not enough.”
“Shall I go to him?” Remin offered.
“I will send…” Kudorin stopped speaking, tipping his head to one side as if watching something in the distance. He made a speculative sound, shoulders visibly relaxing. A hint of arousal wafted past Orinakin.
“Yes?” Remin asked, waiting.
“Ssshhh.” Kudorin’s eyes closed. “He’s about to come.”
“Xio Voe?” Bade asked, surprised and puzzled.
“Vade.” A warm, easy smile spread over Kudorin’s face, and his eyes opened. “I like the way that he pursues pleasure.” Mortified, Bade didn’t know what to say, but Kudorin continued nonchalantly.
I love that even when they're having a very serious conversation about Xio Voe, Kudorin still takes a moment to enjoy Vade's experience. It's so characteristic of him.

So romantic. “You’re so beautiful,” Xio Voe whispered, and Kudorin felt his desire, his passion, his affection, enveloping them in spiraling need. Sexual, romantic, emotional, physical yearning. “You’re so powerful and so friendly and so eccentric and so free and so happy and so sensual and so perfect and so frustrating and such a cialex that I want to spend every minute of my life with you. I want to share everything with you. I want to be with you, and learn from you, and have sex with you, and argue with you. You’re changing my world, jarouje, and even when you’re maddening, all I want is more of you.”
